Wolves’ Jonny still interested in Atletico Madrid

“My desire to play for Atletico is still there, honestly”.

Those are the words of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Jonny, who has made it known that he’s still interested in playing for Atletico again one day. The 25 year old joined the Spanish giants back in 2018 from Celta Vigo, but immediately joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season long loan. Then, on the final day of the January transfer window, it was announced that Wolves had made his deal a permanent one.

Of course, not even getting a chance to feature for Atletico would’ve been hard to take, especially given the stature of the club. Wolves are doing great things right now but there’s no denying that the possibility of Jonny going back to Atletico one day is on the table, especially if it helps him keep…

Everton are to offer free tickets to Ukrainian refugees on Merseyside for their pre-season friendly with Dynamo Kyiv later this month, the club has announced.

Refs need to protect players – Guardiola issues plea after De Bruyne injury

Pep Guardiola urged referees to give better protection to all Premier League players after Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne escaped a serious injury from a crude Jason Puncheon tackle on Sunday.

City were looking to catch Crystal Palace on the break late on in Sunday s 0-0 draw, with Ederson saving a Luka Milivojevic penalty just a few moments earlier.

De Bruyne released the ball midway through the City half and was caught late by a very strong tackle by Puncheon, who injured himself in the process.

The Belgium international was initially carried off the pitch on a stretcher with his leg in a brace, but he was soon seen ambling down the touchline with the support of City s medical staff.

And while it looks as though De Bruyne has avoided a potentiall…

Australia 5-1 Chinese Taipei: Joy of six for Socceroos as Duke claims double

Mitch Duke scored twice as Australia closed in on a place in the third stage of World Cup qualifying with a 5-1 hammering of Chinese Taipei on Monday.

The Socceroos made it six wins out of six and within one victory of a guaranteed spot in the third phase of Asian qualifying at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait, outclassing the team propping up Group B without a point to their name.

Harry Souttar and Jamie Maclaren each scored their fifth goals of the qualifying campaign and Trent Sainsbury added a third in the first half, with Duke claiming a second-half double either side of Gao Wei-Jie s surprise goal for Chinese Taipei.

Head coach Graham Arnold called on Australia to be more clinical after a 3-0 win over Kuwait and gave a completely …

Walcott pace unaffected by injury

Theo Walcott s pace is totally unaffected by his near year-long absence through a knee injury, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists.

The England international sustained a torn cruciate ligament in an FA Cup tie with Tottenham last January, missing the latter half of the 2013-14 season and the World Cup as a result.

Walcott has made two substitute appearances this term, against Burnley and Swansea in November, and returned to the bench at Liverpool at the weekend after suffering a minor groin injury.

Wenger confirmed that Walcott is not far from making his XI over the busy festive period, and the Frenchman is confident his attacker will not miss a step when he does return.

He has been missed because first of all he s a top quality player, Wenger said.

Castan signs new Roma deal

Brazil international defender Castan was a key member of a Roma team who finished second in Serie A last season conceding just 25 goals in the process starting all but two of their top-flight fixtures.

And the 27-year-old, whose previous contract still had two years left to run, has been rewarded with a fresh deal that will keep him in the Italian capital until June 2018.

Roma president James Pallotta told the club s official website of his delight at securing the long-term future of one of coach Rudi Garcia s outstanding performers.

We are extremely pleased and honoured to have extended his contract for another two years, he said.

He is one of the main reasons why our defence was so strong last season.

Castan joined Roma from Corinthians in 2012.

All eyes on Munich as Bundesliga begins

All eyes will be on Munich s Allianz Arena when defending champions Bayern Munich kick off the new Bundesliga season on Friday against Hamburg under the gaze of new coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Having steered Germany to third at the 2006 World Cup this will be Klinsmann s first stewardship of a domestic team and he will be under pressure to repeat Bayern s league and cup double last season under Ottmar Hitzfeld.

Opposite him will be another new manager as Dutchman Martin Jol takes over at Hamburg from Huub Stevens.

Neither side have recruited hard in the summer, with Hamburg losing midfielder …

Management ´tiring´ but Zidane not ready to leave Madrid just yet

Zinedine Zidane admits managing Real Madrid is very tiring but is adamant he is not ready to leave his current job just yet.

The Frenchman has steered the Liga giants to eight trophies, including back-to-back Champions League titles, in the last two seasons since his appointment at the start of 2016.

However, Madrid s domestic struggles this season they sit 17 points behind rivals Barcelona in LaLiga, while they suffered a shock exit at the hands of Leganes in the Copa del Rey have led to Zidane s position coming under scrutiny.

The 45-year-old acknowledges there will come a time when the club will want to make a change, but does not see that happening anytime soon.

It is very tiring, and more so at Real Madrid, Zidane told the media at his pre-match new…
